The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) is seeking an insightful and self-motivated English Commentary Writer (ECW) to join The Guru Granth Sahib Project (TGGSP).
This role offers a unique opportunity to bring the compositions of the Guru Granth Sahib to today’s global audience through interpretive writing that reflects the human experience with clarity, curiosity, and heart, beyond academic or theological boundaries.
About the Role
You will write reflective commentaries on Sabads from the Guru Granth Sahib for publication on our global platform. We are looking for emotionally resonant writing, grounded in reverence and reflection—not prescription or dogma. The role requires independent writing process management, including initiating meetings, meeting deadlines, and taking full ownership of the deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a close study of assigned compositions before and during the writing process.
- Prepare for each commentary meeting by reflecting on the assigned composition’s themes and formulating questions to guide a focused discussion with the Commentary Lead.
- Draft interpretive commentary informed by the collaborative discussion, integrating relevant insights and reflections.
- Work with the Editor to revise and refine the commentary for publication.
- Ensure clarity, emotional depth, and consistency in tone, structure, and style.
- Participate in scheduled meetings, training sessions, and editorial workshops.
- Proactively manage timelines and consistently meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

- Collaborative mindset with the confidence to work independently
- Experience with reflective or creative writing that engages the reader meaningfully
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in humanities, literature, religious studies, or a related writing-focused field
- Fluency in English with excellent grammar, syntax, and editing skills
- Demonstrated ability to write with clarity, structure, and emotional resonance
- Strong analytical reading and interpretive writing abilities
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and drive the writing process independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
- Familiarity with the Guru Granth Sahib, Gurbani vocabulary, and Gurmukhi script
